If you follow this Road Map you will succeed

1 - Now it is time to move on and work on training both hands so they work together and develop some precision

I do this by doing basic easy Fingerpicking exercises that make both hands co-ordinate together properly.  Most of these exercises are very easy, but don’t be fooled, they are very very powerful exercises if done correctly

These exercises are here in this Module Book 1 ‘Finger Picking Guitar. Beginners to Intermediate’ Link

3 - OK, Let me recap here:-

I - Read all this page, make sure you understand

II - Re-read this Module ‘Enabling  Your Creativity’ Link

III - Start Module Book 1 ‘Finger Picking Guitar. Beginners to Intermediate’ Link

IV - REPETITION, REPETITION, REPETITION of each Exercise

V - Pick up the speed as you master each Exercise

VI - Experiment yourself with each Exercise, try making variations

VII - Always revise what you have been doing

4 - With this basic Road Map, I have outlined a good solid starting foundation that will enable any budding guitarist to succeed

If you can master all of this basic foundation, you should now be able to progress in just about any style you choose to focus on

Do not expect this to happen overnight, how fast you progress will depend on how much you do, If you do all of what I have outlined here, and do it properly, you will be good

2a - Now this is where most people will fail

Why?

Because they do not practise these exercises properly or nearly enough

The KEY here is:-

REPETITION, REPETITION, REPETITION

2b - Each and every one of these exercises need to be ingrained in you.  When you are totally comfortable with one exercise then pick up the speed and play it faster, and when you have done this successfully play it faster again

2c - Then with each of the Exercises start to make variations, experiment yourself, make the picking patterns your own, this is very important

I STRONGLY suggest that you go back and re-read this Module ‘Enabling  Your Creativity’ Link

Over the years of teaching I have seen that this is the make or break, the difference to being a basic player, to potentially being a really good player

As I said before, most of these exercises are very easy, but don’t be fooled, they are very very powerful exercises if done correctly, remember you can be as good as you want to be, but the fingers need to be trained to develop good muscle memory

Note: Read all of this page first, before you start the
