First things any Beginner or self taught guitarist should know and do is:-
1 - Read This Module:- ‘Introduction Learning Finger picking for Guitar and enabling your Creativity’ Link
2a - Work through this Module:- ‘Complete Beginners Guitar Lessons’ and Master it all, this is the fundamental basics that will set you up for the future Link A simple but important Module
NOTE:
A good piano player trains both hands, so YES I deal with Fingerpicking here as well, don't be fooled; Fingerpicking helps to train both, left and right hands, so you can evolve your playing to as high a level as you want
Don’t panic, this does not mean that you have to become a fingerpicking guitarist, it just means you are enabling yourself to get both hands working properly, and opens up the possibilities for you and not limit yourself or hold you back in the future

2b - As you work your way through 2a Module:- ‘Complete Beginners Guitar Lessons’ and you are learning your basic chords,
2c - Also - As you work your way through 2a (or once you have finished it) take time out when you feel like to read and study this next Module:- ‘Very Easy Practical Theory’ Link
It is essential that all musicians have a basic knowledge and understanding of this. If you want to succeed do not skip this Module

Before you move on first make sure you have Mastered 2a, 2b and understand the basics of 2c, and understand the concept of 1, if necessary re-read and or work through what you need to
My aim is not so much to teach you, but to enable you to teach yourself, and to do this you need a certain amount of:- knowledge, fingers that have had some training, patience, perseverance the right attitude, imagination, etc…
